Part 2
1.How do the authors of Inherit The Wind (ITW) describe the setting of the play? Based on their description, would you say that the city where the action takes place is more liberal or conservative? Why?
-The setting of the Inherit The Wind is early 1950 in England and it not too long time ago from now and take place in Hillsboro in the South. I think the city where the action takes action is more conservative because the people don't have their rights to know the truths and can't say what is the truths to the people. People must have the freedom to say or speak what they want. People have the freedom to do what they want and other people can't control it. Like example, Cates teaches the Darwin's theory to the pupils about humans come from apes and monkey and not from the Gods. There are no right or wrong answer because people have freedom to what they believe on and what they want to do with the truths.
2.When playwrights( authors) create characters, they pay a lot of attention to details. From their description to the lines the characters say, everything is important. Think about the relationship Cates and Rachel have. Why do you think the playwrights chose to include this relationship in the play? What are the playwrights trying to say through this relationship?
- If there have more details, the readers can imagine how the character looks, behave and what action they will do. Relationships between Cates and Rachel in the play shows how the people can help each others when there have problems, support each others and give advise to each others when making decision which is good or bad. I think the authors include this relationships in the play is to show how couple can help each others when indeed and having problem or trouble. The authors try to say about Cates and Rachel that they believe to each others and show the people in the community need to believe what they believe and not making judgement to anything.
